Mike Walker; the founder of MGN events interview with Hot Courses…

A career in event management is not for everyone, however it is everything to Mike Walker, the founder and Director of MGN events.

Mike describes how he started in the events industry, and what makes it so rewarding.

Event management does have its perks though, Mike says he enjoys seeing months of preparation come to fruition, “Personally for me, the most rewarding thing in this job is when all the cogs in the wheel work as a team to produce and run the event that has taken so long to organise. Seeing the client happy and knowing you have made a difference produces an equally great feeling.”

And his advice to students thinking of going into events management? “Always have a plan B! Staff and suppliers can sometimes let you down, and being able to think on your feet quickly and creatively can pay dividends, and equally it shows potential employers how dynamic you can be.”

The 1980′s: Everyone loves a good dress-up party so why not get everyone to come dressed in the fashion of the 1980s or as one of their favourite movie stars or celebrities of the decade. You could have your event management team put together a 80s-inspired playlist as well as some brightly-coloured mocktails for the guests to drink whilst dancing the night away to cheesey pop music! Leggings and ra-ra skirts at the ready!

Masquerade Ball: For a more sophisticated atmosphere at a sweet 16, a masquerade ball is always a good option. Your event management team can really go to town with this theme to make it atmospheric with the décor and candles. With a formal dress code, this sweet 16 will be a classy affair!
