Our client asked us to give his 21st birthday party a cool Hipster vibe. Creating a strong theme for events is second nature to MGN events – the bigger challenge was working within an awkward garden to maximise the available space for 110 guests!

Having enjoyed welcome drinks and canapes in the house, guests moved through to a marquee where a formal three-course dinner was to be served, topped off by an incredible cheeseboard presented on a giant oak slab. We managed to successfully incorporate trees and shrubbery to look like an integral part of the design scheme – it’s all part of the job!

The Solution

Drawing inspiration from London’s cool hangouts such as Shoreditch and Borough Market, we used wooden trestle tables and bench seating. The tables were decorated simply but elegantly with hessian runners and cutlery holders, greenery, candles and lanterns. A wooden bar and props such as oak barrels, apple crates and shabby chic bric-a-brac added a market feel. The dress code was black tie and the juxtaposition of guests in their finery within the environment we created was really effective.

Entertainment included a saxophone/cello duo, a magician who astounded everyone, and a human statue that was a source of fascination amongst all the guests. Following the dinner, our DJ ensured the dancefloor was packed for the silent disco – a great way of ensuring the neighbours wouldn’t be disturbed. The vodka luge proved hugely popular and, for those needing to rest their feet, we created some cool chill out areas with sofas and wooden stools.
