Objective
Celebrating the people behind 30 years of success
A company milestone is a chance to do more than mark another year in business. Done well, it can bring people together, recognise the contribution of individuals and give employees a chance to feel part of something bigger than their day-to-day roles.
As our client approached its 30th year in business, the company wanted to celebrate the achievement with its people and partners. With employees spanning different generations, the event needed to appeal to a broad audience while reflecting the warm, down-to-earth culture that sits at the heart of the business.
The objective was simple: create an experience that brought everyone together, celebrated three decades of achievement and left guests feeling valued, connected and proud to be part of the company’s story.
That human connection was important. Research from the CIPD shows that organisational identification is linked with outcomes including performance, retention, wellbeing and job satisfaction, while employee engagement has positive associations with productivity, innovation and other business measures.
For our client, the anniversary provided the perfect opportunity to put that into practice.

The brief
Turning 30 years of Grant into one memorable celebration
Our client asked MGN Events to create and deliver a bold, immersive themed corporate anniversary party within easy reach of its headquarters.
The brief was to make it feel fun, welcoming and distinctly different from previous company events, with plenty of opportunities for informal networking, entertainment and celebration.
MGN was appointed to manage the experience from creative concept through to delivery, including venue management, supplier sourcing, production, logistics, entertainment and on-site event management.
The venue chosen to host this themed corporate anniversary party was De Vere Cotswold Water Park, giving us a semi-permanent marquee and large indoor event space to work with.
The creative answer came from looking at our client itself.

Finding the story behind the theme
Through a collaborative creative process beginning with one of our Creative Strategy Workshops, one thing became clear: our client’s culture was rooted in strong relationships, hard work and enjoying success together.
That led us to Britpop ’96.
The cultural references gave us plenty to play with, but the concept was about more than nostalgia. 1996 provided a shared reference point that could bring different generations together through music, television, fashion, humour and iconic British personalities. It gave us a creative language for celebrating our client’s own history too.

What we did
Turning the venue into a 1990s playground
We transformed the existing spaces into an immersive Britpop-inspired world, with every area giving guests something new to discover.
Guests entered through a purpose-built tunnel before arriving into a colourful environment filled with retro television installations, branded lighting, custom furniture and nostalgic references.
Some of the larger creative features included:
- A 5m-tall Big Ben installation
- A 3m-tall Gallagher Gorilla
- Eight retro TVs
- A bespoke retro TV photobooth
- A TFI Friday-inspired living room
- The ‘1996 Bar’
- A boombox-inspired DJ booth
- Custom branded cushions, posters, lamps and signage
- Retro arcade games and themed props
The result was deliberately playful. Rather than simply decorating the venue with 1990s props, we created an environment that encouraged people to explore, interact and talk.

Creating shared moments, not just entertainment
Entertainment was carefully chosen to keep the energy moving throughout the evening while creating opportunities for interaction.
Guests were welcomed by Liam Gallagher and Absolutely Fabulous lookalikes, while four retro arcade games provided an easy way for people to get involved and strike up conversations.
One of the most important elements was the bespoke awards ceremony. Ten 1990s-themed awards were created to recognise the people behind Grant’s success.
This gave the anniversary a more personal dimension. Rather than celebrating the company as an abstract entity, the evening celebrated the people who had helped build it.
A professional 1990s-themed compere brought the awards to life, creating one of the standout moments of the evening.

Food and drink became part of the experience
The catering followed the same informal, sociable approach.
Guests could move between three street-food-inspired stations, with menus taking inspiration from Asia, the Deep South and Spain. Dishes included vegetable gyoza, udon noodles, chicken fillet, bourbon-glazed beef ribs, Cajun gumbo rice, paella and tilapia with mojo sauce.
Tiramisu, including a plant-based option, rounded things off.
It was designed to feel relaxed rather than formal, allowing guests to eat, drink and continue moving around the space rather than being tied to a traditional seated dinner.

Building towards the big reveal
As the evening progressed, the production became increasingly important.
MGN delivered the full technical infrastructure, including a large stage, main stage screen, enhanced DJ booth, moving lights, uplighting and a striking 6m x 6m infinity dancefloor.
The main party space was deliberately kept under wraps, building anticipation throughout the evening.
Then came the reveal.
Guests entered a fully transformed party environment, were handed glow sticks and illuminated wristbands, and were greeted by special guest Denise Van Outen as Discoliscious.
It was the kind of shared moment that works particularly well at a company celebration. Everyone experienced it together, creating a memory that belonged to the whole group.
Alongside the creative delivery, MGN managed the operational detail behind the scenes, coordinating trusted suppliers, installation, technical production, health and safety, venue requirements and derig to ensure the event ran smoothly.

The results
220 people, one shared experience
The event achieved its primary objective: bringing our client’s people together to celebrate 30 years of achievement in a way that felt authentic to the company’s personality.
The informal environment encouraged employees and partners to mix naturally, while the combination of immersive design, food, entertainment and recognition gave people plenty of reasons to engage.
The bespoke awards were a particular highlight, providing a meaningful opportunity to recognise individual contribution within the wider anniversary celebration.
The dancefloor remained busy throughout the evening and feedback from the client was overwhelmingly positive.
Most importantly, the event gave 220 guests a shared experience centred on the people, culture and achievements behind our client’s 30-year story.
Three numbers that tell the story:
- 220 guests brought together to celebrate 30 years
- 10 bespoke awards created to recognise contribution
- 220 retro-themed gift bum bags filled with 1990s treats and surprises
For MGN Events, this is where a themed corporate anniversary becomes more than a party. The creative concept creates the excitement, but the real value comes from what happens between the big moments: people reconnecting, colleagues being recognised, stories being shared and employees feeling part of the same journey.
