For a leading UK financial services business, this company kick off event was exactly that moment – the first time in several years that all employees had gathered in person, and the first major opportunity for the new executive team to share their vision, purpose and ambition for the future.
MGN Events was appointed to design and deliver the full experience, from registration and communications to creative production, flow, and the celebratory party that followed the two-hour conference. The brief was simple in principle but significant in impact; create an employee kick off event that energised, aligned and celebrated 1,200 colleagues, giving them the clarity and momentum they needed for the year ahead.


The Strategic Importance of the Moment
For Internal Comms and People leaders, this corporate kick off carried weight. It had been a long time since the entire workforce had been brought together. The organisation had new ownership, a refreshed leadership team and a newly defined purpose that needed to be heard, understood and embraced across all levels.
This was not a ‘nice-to-have’ celebration. It was a business-critical cultural moment.
The objectives were clear:

Designing an Employee Journey That Felt Effortless
With 1,200 employees attending the business kick off, the experience needed to feel smooth and welcoming from the moment each person arrived. MGN created a full registration platform using our in-house software, enabling personalised QR code check-in. This allowed 1,000 people to be registered within 45 minutes – a level of operational efficiency that set the tone for the entire event.
Pre-event communications were handled through the platform, supporting employees with FAQs, travel information, venue guidance and a simple way to submit questions in advance. This ensured clarity, minimised uncertainty and gave people a sense of involvement before they even stepped through the doors.
At the venue, the flow was designed to feel natural, supported by staff who directed guests into the auditorium ahead of the 3pm conference start. It was a thoughtful, human-first approach to an internal communications event at scale.


A Setting Designed for Impact and Momentum
Bristol Beacon provided an ideal stage for a large-scale company kick off event. The auditorium offered the height, energy and acoustics needed for a message of this magnitude, while surrounding spaces allowed for seamless movement into the celebration afterwards.
Creatively, the environment needed to feel fresh, energetic and aligned with the organisation’s evolving identity. MGN used branded vinyls across glass panels and bridges, a statement floor vinyl, and carefully placed props, including a Number 10-style door that tied into the business’s forthcoming advertising campaign. These details helped ground the content within a cohesive visual world.
The venue’s in-house team delivered the conference AV, while MGN handled DJ production and sound for the post-conference reception. It meant the strategic content and the celebration felt like parts of one thoughtfully designed whole.


Leadership Visibility That Felt Human
A key aim of this corporate kick off was ensuring leadership visibility at scale. The executive team used the conference to outline the organisation’s purpose and future direction with clarity and openness that resonated strongly in the room.
Special guest speaker, Sir Gareth Southgate, took to the stage to share his perspective on leadership and team culture whihc explored themes of performance, resilience and teamwork. His reflections offered a relatable bridge between individual contribution and collective ambition, helping land the message in a way that felt human, grounded and relevant.


Creating Space to Celebrate, Connect and Rebuild Culture
As the conference drew to a close, employees moved into a celebratory reception designed to encourage connection and conversation. A complimentary prosecco or beer marked the shift from strategy to celebration.
MGN styled the space with a white DJ booth lit in the organisation’s mint brand colour and dressed with palms, lanterns and disco balls. The atmosphere was upbeat and warm; exactly what colleagues needed after an intense year.
Four bowl food dishes per person, dessert and inclusive drink bands offered a fair, simple and relaxed hospitality experience. For many employees, this employee engagement event was their first opportunity to reconnect face-to-face after years of remote or hybrid working.
